Japan's last-minute victory against South Africa was called the biggest World Cup upset ever. It had been 24 years since Japan won a match.

"I changed the mindset of the players. When I first got to Japan I tried to work out why Japan could not win and that was a mindset problem with the players and the coaches. Even before they went onto the field they had this perception: We are small, we are not powerful enough, we cannot beat those teams. I had to change that by repeating in different ways what is our competitive edge. We have speed, we have fitness, potential skills and ability to work hard."
